Mixed Martial Arts and UFC 1
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and The UFC.
Royce went on to win 3 of the 1st 4 UFCs, pulling out of UFC 3 due to medical reasons.
Picture of Royce winning UFC 1 with a staple of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the rear naked choke.
The interesting thing about Jiu Jitsu and fighting is that very little has changed. If someone proficient in Jiu Jitsu fights someone who is not, the odds are it will go just like the picture here.
People forget history and in modern MMA many things have changed.
There are now many more rules, ref stand ups, rounds, time limits, and one match instead of multiple in a night. Add to that, virtually 100% if not 100% of UFC athletes train Jiu Jitsu now.
All these things and much more lead people to believe now you just need striking and movement… that’s exactly what the karate and other martial artists thought going into UFC 1.
It’s easy to see what happened to them .
