Self Defense and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu effective in a real fight?
Here, Bas Rutten, explains a little about why it is a bad idea to resort to certain tactics when you are in a inferior position against a superior grappler.
Being in a superior position allows you to determine how the fight will end and will give you the opportunity to determine your opponent’s fate.
Please excuse Bas’ colorful language.
Is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu effective in a real fight?
We’re asked this question on an almost daily basis.
A skilled Jiu Jitsu practitioner can choose where the fight goes and what happens to his or her opponent, all the while putting them in a position where they can not cause any harm.
At Texarkana Jiu Jitsu, we don’t practice only ground techniques. We also practice how to control and throw an opponent to the ground. The throw, in and of itself, will end most fights.
In a fight versus mutliple opponents, the odds are stacked against you. In these cases, it is even more important to be able to dictate where the fight goes because one or more of your opponents will try to grapple with you.
You must be able to defend this in order to minimize damage.
