We Help All Kids Develop Athleticism and Fitness Through Martial Arts
Martial Arts Helps Kids Develop Coordination and Athleticism… Even If They Aren’t Naturally Athletic At All!
Kids come in all shapes, sizes, and attributes. Some kids seem to be born with natural grace and athletic ability.
Other kids struggle with physical coordination and athletics. Anything they achieve in terms of physical fitness requires more work than those that are naturally gifted. As a consequence, they often struggle with common team sports like football, baseball, basketball, softball, and volleyball.
In our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes, we take to time to work with the kids and build them up over time. Unlike other team sports, we’re not in a hurry to play a game or have to put in only the most athletic kids to help us win.
At Texarkana Jiu Jitsu, we help each child develop their physical and mental attributes regardless of where they are starting from with natural ability.
We often see kids that aren’t athletic come in, work with our coaches, develop amazing physical and mental skills that they use to develop better skills than those that are more naturally gifted.
Often we may think of a trained martial artist as having amazing physical skills… coordination, speed, and athleticism coupled with mental skills of confidence, discipline, and focus.
This leads some parents to be concerned that their child who isn’t naturally athletic won’t be able to keep up in our classes.
In fact, the opposite is true.
The truth is that those martial artists we think of (and see on our mats) rarely come in to our classes with those physical and mental attributes… They develop them on the mats having fun training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with us.
I see it all the time. Physical skills of athleticism, coordination, speed, and strength are a skill. These can be learned – and I see kids learn it every day. All they need is the right instruction and the right environment with a coach that will take the time to help them reach their potential and not just worry about winning the next game.
Now, that doesn’t mean that every child who studies with us becomes a martial arts master. That wouldn’t be realistic. But it doesn’t mean that the children who attend our classes leave with higher levels of athleticism, strength, speed, and coordination than they were when they started with us.
In fact, often the changes we see are amazing! It doesn’t matter if your child has two left feet or no interest in sports. Martial arts classes provide kids with meaningful, one-on-one instruction that helps them improve their athleticism and fitness. Even the most un-athletic child will see incredible improvements over time.
